Seal Spotting in New Jersey: Winter Adventures at Sandy Hook

Bayshore + Beyond

Seals sitting on the rocks in front of office row in Sandy Hook New Jersey

Did you know that seals come + visit New Jersey waters every winter? That's right! Sandy Hook + the surrounding bay you can spot the blubbery little tourists hanging out on rocks, swimming + bobbing in the water.

There are TWO ways to spot the seals.

ONE book a Seal + Bird Eco Cruise with Sea Streak. We went on the cruise + it is wonderful. You get a perfect view of the seals + enjoy a lovely winter afternoon out on the water heading all the way out to the Verrazno Bridge. You can hang out + spot seals in the comfort of a heated ferry. Book your tickets here.

TWO drive down to Sandy Hook + head all the way to the end at Officer Row. If the conditions are right - low tide + not a lot of wind you should spot seals hanging out on the rocks + swimming around. Bring binoculars if you have them.

If you are looking for something to do + to get your kids out of the house I could not recommend this enough. You can either buy tickets or for the FREE fun drive down to Sandy Hook + go on a seal hunt. As always be respectful of our animal friends.
